My family is now in Genting Highlands, so Charmian came over yesterday to my house. We did something.
Something so hot.
So hot that it got us all sweaty.
Something that kept us very busy for quite some time.
Lots of oil was used.
We cooked. Again! She bought chicken wings, a promfet, prawns, some veggie and mushrooms. She also very wisely picked up some marinate for the seafood and frying flour mixture thingy for the chicken wings. If not for these condiments, I'm quite sure we would be eating steamed chicken wings, prawns and fish.
The first dish was the mushrooms mixed with the veggie. She did this one, basically just frying the veggie and mushrooms together. I added the oyster sauce. A little too much sauce so it was pretty salty. After the dish was done and served on a plate, she tasted it and said "Eh! Very salty la." and then continued eating more, while saying the same thing. When we actually started eating, half of that dish was finished by her. Ok, to her defense, she was really hungry.
The second delicacy is the prawns. It was easy and it turned out well. Just fry around in oil then dump the marinate in.
Third was the promfet. Basically just putting our flat little friend on the pan and fry it around with oil. Then the marinating sauce again. I'm so thankful for that little pouch of goodness.
Last one was the chicken wings coated with the spicy frying flour. Just fry around in oi..wait. It's exactly the same as what we did for the last 3 dishes. Sorry for realising only now.
This evening, my friends and I went to the arts festival concert featuring some German-sounding band. They play a weird hybrid of experimental-percussion-metal music. Imagine Stomp, with the recycled instruments and everything, but take away the fun. Their second track was the most memorable because it had this guy shouting "WAR! HO! VAT IZ IT GOOD FOR?" in an extremely cheesy low-grade metal kind of way. Then they had some fireworks during the last track and it got more cheers and applause than any of the band's actual performances. For a gauge of how good the concert of, the only people moving around to the music were these two little girls in front of me. Probably just learnt how to do movements with their little bodies and just amazed by this wonderful ability, not the music.
At about 11 plus later in the evening, my neighbour pressed my doorbell really urgently so I opened the door and said that she wanted to give me some vegetables because she sells them and there were some leftovers. (No la, she didn't mention the leftovers part) Oh how nice, this nice auntie giving her neighbour some food. So she handed a bunch of veggies to me.
Then another.
And another.
And another.
And another.
And another.
Finally she was done and went back home.
I had to practically lug this hulk of green to the kitchen.
Remember the !Dgonajbes? My favourite Ethiopian family is being called upon again, this time for the purpose of illustrating how much vegetables I have right now. There was enough greens for them to last a DECADE. Hell, they would probably start to photosynthesise after finishing all these veggies. Famines, surrender!, Your once-deadly effects are now mere scratches to the green-skinned !Dgonajbes.
Anywaaay, I have acquired quite a few albums over the last 2 months. In my psuedo-music-expert voice, I shall briefly review them.
JamisonParker Sleepwalker
Good pop-rock. Very clean sound because of their heavy use of acoustic guitars.
Fallout Boy Under the Cork Tree
They're doing very well right now and you can see why. Extremely catchy choruses and riffs powered by very very solid vocals. The song "Dance, Dance" is way too addictive for its own good.
Amber Pacific The Possibility and The Promise
I like this album quite a bit, the lyrics are a little emo but this album is all about the solid pop-punk sounds. "If I Fall" is quite a beautiful acoustic song and the other louder songs aren't too bad either.
Hidden In Plain View Life In Dreaming
I used to hate post-hardcore bands like HIPV because they all sound the same and not in a good way. But this release is really good. "Bleed for you" has some of the most wrist-cuttingly
cliched emo lyrics ever but the song sounds SO good.
MxPx Panic
I was never the biggest fan of this Christian pop-punk band and their newest album didn't do much to change that. A few good songs here and there surrounded by extremely average ones. "The Darkest Places" is probably the best one here. Fun fact! MxPx has a track on the Passion of the Christ soundtrack. Kinda weird considering the fact that electric guitars would look pretty out of place in biblical times. But they don't now, look at City Harvest! Having so much fun with their pop music and everything. Sorry, I digress.
Rufio The Comfort of Home
I liked Rufio a lot a few years ago and this album brings back my love for them. Amazing guitarwork, the trademark vocals, it's Rufio alright, but with much better production. They have also strayed away from their usual "Love me love you. You no love me so I cry" formula of lyrics for a few songs so they're not as emo as before. I realised that I've used the word "emo" three times already.
The Planet SmasherHere's something different. A very solid ska release. But somehow they sound more mellow and laid-back than their older albums. No more super-infectious singalong songs like "Super Orgy Porno Party" which was out a few years back but it's still good. That song title probably caught your eye for a while, didn't it? Sorry, it's not actually what you're thinking about.
The Starting Line Based On A True Story
There are a couple of songs I really like here. "Bedroom talk" is an awesome tune with pretty weird lyrics but I'm the world's most superficial music listener so it doesn't really matter. This band definitely matured a lot from their previous releases now that they are on a bigger label (Geffen).
Warped Tour 2005
This is the yearly compilation of songs played during the Warped Tour (duh) and it's eh...not too bad. Dropkick Murphys' "Sunshine Highway" was quite unexpected. I know they play Irish punk-rock, which is basically pub sing-alongs with electric guitars but this song is perfect for a bunch of rowdy Irish drunks to sing along to. In a good way of course. Motion City Soundtrack's "Make Out Kids" sounds really good, in fact this song has prompted me to acquire their new album. "Taxi Driver" by Gym Class Heroes was a surprise for me. It was the last track on this 2-disc compilation but it's a...hip-hop track? On an album filled with punk music? Upon further listening, this is such an awesome song with equally awesome lyrics. Tons of references to other bands in the "scene" and there's a really calming and relaxing sound to this song.
Punk Goes 80s
What? Another compilation of bands covering 80s' pop hits? This is quite dissapointing actually, I expected a lot more. But at least Relient K did a wonderful rendition of The Bangles' "Manic Monday" complete with awesome keyboards and a slight change in the lyrics, which actually contributes quite a bit to this cover's awesomeness. So They Say's cover of Rod Stewart's "Forever Young" sounds good too, so is Amber Pacific's version of "Video killed the radio star", which was originally sung by The Buggles. If I'm not wrong, the video of this song was the first one to be played by MTV way back in the 80s. Hidden In Plain View also contributed to this album here with "And I Ran (So Far Away)", originally done by Flock of Seagulls. It doesn't sound better or worse than the original, really. But this is such a great song so it doesn't matter. Gatsby's American Dream's cover of The Cure's "Just Like Heaven" was pretty bad though. They pretty much butchered the original, which is one of the best 80s songs. Maybe it's because I just don't like their sound. But at least the sweeeeet keyboards section of the original is done nicely here.
Also, I love Vanilla Sky's "Distance". Stream the song here. Oh, they are from Italy. Cool right?
If you have actually read the whole thing, thank you so much. Because there's no one who would listen to me talk about these things in real life. Well, there are but imagine saying all the above to someone, quite tiring you know?

The fourth of June, sometimes written as 4/6 or 4th June but in me and babybabypoon's hearts, it deeply etched in as the day we got together. That's right, exactly a year (and a few hours) ago, we decided that we should be together despite certain difficulties, restrictions and a horrible person. Ok, that person isn't so horrible now and please keep it that way, thank you very much. Anyway, know why I call Charmian babybabypoon? I'm not trying to be a casanova but it's because she has this natural smell on her, smells like...babies. In a good way of course, not when they're poo-ing.
Even though this one year of relationship brought some unhappy moments into our lives, it had more than enough happy stuff to outweigh them. For every one time I had "Argh, whatever." in my mind, there will be 20 times when she will be so cute that I had to hug her, wherever we are.
Today we went to Tampines Mall (for Pizza Hut) then to Ochard (for a while) and then to Newton hawker centre. So we basically did nothing but to eat, walk around to digest and eat again. I think the amount of food I ate in the past one year is enough to last a small Ethiopian family for a year, provided they don't mind lots of sushi. Next week is Charmian's birthday, what does that mean? Another week's supply of food for the !Dgonajbes (Russel Peters, ok he's not quite as funny now), my imaginary Ethiopian family! Haha no la poonpoon, it's not you who's eating a lot, it's me. Look how fat I am now, 62kg. A year ago, it was in the mid-50s. Ohoho, I'm the greedy one.
Anywayyyy, happy One-day-after-1st-anniversary Day! So lame la but the idea is that you should be happy everyday ok? Mmm.
